Kuskokwim breakup causing flooding

This year's breakup of the Kuskokwim river is causing havok. The picture is of the ice reaching the top of the Dike in Aniak directly outside the "Driftnet", and anybody who has carried a cooler full of salmon up that dike will attest that this is significant. Some water has passed over the dike, and the latest report is that the level is starting to slowly drop, however that situation can improve or deteriate at any time. Over the weekend there was flooding and evacuation at Red Devel and Napaimute which are upstream from Aniak. More available at this link.

The ice is reportedly jammed below Crow Village where the Aniak Slough rejoins the Kuskokwim river. A marine radio report from the a member of the River Watch team conducting aerial surveillance indicated that there is ice in Crow Village, however the water level is still 2 feet below the floor of the main structure.

I'm glad to see the city and the village is prepared. I heard the state people and some guys from homeland security are here. The school people have the voc. ed center ready, and the fire department is always got their stuff together. The power company kept the power on as long as possible. I just love those boy scouts for filling up sand bags! I think this city manager guy is doing a good job.
This town has got things happening and going on.

I am confident in the abilities of the Dragon Slayers should there be any needed evacuation assistance in Aniak (or Crow Village). I understand they have a newly certified emergency trauma technician that is out of this world! Congrats Raven on passing the test.
